Joel is a PhD student at the University of Oxford’s Mathematical Institute and Institute for New Economic Thinking, and he has visited Digital Footprint Lab and the University of Bristol in 2022 as an Alan Turing Institute Enrichment Student. He has broad interests in social data science, complexity economics, and agent-based modelling. Specific problems he has worked on to date include likelihood-free inference, representation learning for time-series, and using natural language processing to extract meaningful signals from social media data. He is broadly interested in using machine learning methods in computational social science.
