Romana Burgess

I am a Senior Research Associate in the Digital Footprints Lab, having started in October 2023.

I am currently working on a range of projects relating to using shopping data to explore public health, for instance, analysing patterns in laxative purchases for weight management, and exploring the potential moderators of consent to share shopping data. Through my role in the Turing Novel Data Linkages Interest Group, I am also working to promote successful collaboration between academia, industry, and policymakers, and making sure the public are well-informed on digital footprints research.

My background is in mathematics, but I ultimately wanted to pivot into health research. I carried out my PhD research in Bristol – as part of the Digital Health and Care CDT – using data science techniques to analyse parent and children behaviours from video data, with the aim of pinpointing predictors of mental health conditions in parents.
